A plan to overhaul and reopen the Orange County Government Center in Goshen has hit a roadblock.

The center, which served as the hub for bringing business and foot traffic to the area, was forced to close after suffering hurricane and tropical storm damage. The building was set to undergo renovations in August.

However, the building's unique architecture has made it eligible for the state historic preservation list. That means the county would be required by law to have a substantial review of the renovation project.

Officials say the review could delay the project by up to 12 months and there is no guarantee it will be approved. 

There are other options, but Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus says new restrictions could mean more dollars out of the pockets of taxpayers.
