Storm causes power outages across the Hudson Valley
Utility crews have been working throughout the night to restore electricity to hundreds of people in the Hudson Valley after a night of wild weather.
Over 300 residents still have no power in that area after six utility poles came crashing down last night and caught fire on Yonkers Avenue in Yonkers.
Rafael Marte lives in an apartment building near where some of the power lines crashed down. His car is still in the parking lot just feet away from those lines. He spent the night in a hotel and was scheduled to work today. "We're out of power, out of my car, out of my job. I'm taking pictures to send to my boss so he can see I'm not lying to him."
Officials tell News 12 that power in the area will likely be out most of the day. Crews are still working to remove trees that fell, then Con Edison has to reset the poles and replace the transformers.
Earlier Thursday evening, an Amtrak train was stranded on the tracks for three hours between Rye and Greenwich. Wires on two northbound tracks came down, causing the delay. Amtrak officials say another train was brought in to bring the passengers to Stamford, Connecticut.
There were also power problems overnight in the town of Cortlandt where high winds and falling trees left several hundred residents in the dark. Most customers have the power back on and cleanup efforts are underway. The National Weather Service is now looking into whether a microburst hit the area.
