Suspect Dontan Jenkins arraigned in fatal Mt. Vernon shooting of co-worker Richard Brown
A Mount Vernon security supervisor was arraigned Tuesday for allegedly murdering his co-worker.
Dontan Jenkins, 32, was charged with second-degree murder at Mount Vernon City Court. Joining him there was his family, who came to offer him support.
Jenkins allegedly shot his co-worker, Richard Brown, after the two got into an argument earlier. Mount Vernon's Police Commissioner Terrance Raynor says Jenkins was mad because Brown made comments about his weight.
Jenkins allegedly returned with a gun during Brown's overnight shift at Levister Towers on South Ninth Avenue and shot him multiple times. The gun, along with extra ammunition, was recovered at the scene.
Brown had only been on the job for 10 days and Jenkins was his boss. The two were employed as security guards for the Brooklyn-based Nature's Finest Security, LLC.
