A Yonkers man will spend the next two to six years behind bars after he admitted to killing a woman 10 years ago.
Alberto Plasencia, now 28, was 17 years old when he threw a 10-inch piece of asphalt off the Kimball Avenue overpass onto the Sprain Brook Parkway in April 2004. The asphalt crashed through Marie McSweeney's windshield, hitting her in the head and killing her. Plasencia admitted he was high on ecstasy and marijuana at the time of the incident.
The case went cold before police say new evidence connected Plasencia to the crime. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
Plasencia apologized to McSweeney's family in court. McSweeney's cousin, Victoria Nikou, says he has been held accountable for what he did, and hopes everyone can start to heal.
