Official: Ramapo tentative budget full of errors, tax increasesPosted: Updated:
Some officials in Ramapo say that the town's tentative budget that was released online Wednesday is full of errors and hidden tax increases
Along with tax increases, Councilman Daniel Friedman says the proposed budget includes dubious cost shifting, missing figures and what he calls epic math errors.
The newly proposed budget comes at a time when Ramapo is in dire straits with a deficit in the multimillions.
The federal government has stepped in to investigate the town's finances. Last year, the FBI raided Town Hall to allegedly investigate if Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence lied about bond finances used to pay for the Rockland Boulders' stadium.
Despite the raid, the proposed budget calls for a gift of over $600,000 of taxpayer money to be given for the operation of the stadium.
Friedman says St. Lawrence's role is a major part of the problem, given that he is the town supervisor and the director of finance.
News 12 reached out to St. Lawrence, who said he has no comment because the budget has not yet been finalized.
