18th Congressional District candidates debate
Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney and Nan Hayworth expressed their views on issues facing the Hudson Valley during a debate on News 12 Tuesday night.
Democratic incumbent Maloney is being challenged by Republican Nan Hayworth, who lost to Maloney two years ago. During the debate, Hayworth said she was "deeply concerned" about the Hudson Valley and how things are being handled in Washington. Maloney defended himself, saying he is one of the best members of Congress when it comes to working with the other party.
The two candidates also disagreed about the future of Indian Point, with Hayworth calling it an important source of energy and jobs. Maloney accused Hayworth of taking contributions from Entergy, the owners of Indian Point, and said he wants to move away from nuclear energy.
Maloney and Hayworth also criticized each other's work in Washington. The two candidates did agree there should be a travel ban on flights coming into the United States from countries affected by Ebola in West Africa.
