Rep. Maloney wins 2nd term in office

Posted: Updated:

Incumbent Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney has officially won a second term in office.

Maloney got 50 percent of the vote to Republican Nan Hayworth's 48 percent. Hayworth represented the 18th Congressional District before Maloney defeated her in 2012.

The race was tight, with a difference of only single digits in the polls at some times. Hayworth initially refused to concede, but did Wednesday after Maloney pulled further ahead as paper ballots were counted.

Maloney says he is happy with the results and looks forward to getting back to work.
