Rockland County sheriff supporters protest budget cuts

Members of the Rockland County Sheriff's Deputy Association rallied Thursday night to urge county legislators not to support proposed budget cuts that would eliminate 37 patrolman positions.
County Executive Ed Day has proposed a $772 million budget for 2015 that includes $400,000 in cuts to the sheriff's budget.
Day says the plan would only cut duplicate positions from the patrol division. But the Sheriff's Deputy Association says the plan would mean severe cuts to the bomb squad, arson investigation unit and marine unit, and the loss of two helicopter pilots and several K-9s.
Supporters of the sheriff's department gathered outside the Rockland County offices in advance of a budget finance meeting where Day was expected to propose his budget for the sheriff's office.
