Rockland budget committee makes cuts to 2015 budget

Rockland County Executive Ed Day (R) says proposed cuts to the 2015 county budget will hurt the county.
The cuts were made by the County Legislature's Budget Committee. The revisions keep the tax increase under the state's 2 percent cap, but cut a $10 million commitment to deficit reduction down to $5 million, instead of the $7 million Day says he would accept.
The committee also restored full funding to local nonprofits, including the Legal Aid Society. Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco also had most of the money for his office restored, which Day cut.
Day says he is very concerned that the commitment to reducing the deficit has been cut in half.
Once the budget is approved by the full legislature, Day has five business days to veto or sign the budget.
