Stony Point has 4th fatal car accident of 2014

This year will go down in history as one of the worst years for fatal car accidents in Stony Point.
The town had its fourth fatal car accident of 2014 on Monday. Police say Thomas Greco, 24, was killed in a head-on crash at the intersection of North Central Highway and Sullivan Drive when he drove his vehicle into a car driven by a 75-year-old woman who was traveling in the opposite direction. The woman was hospitalized in serious condition.
Just days earlier on Saturday, Brianna Rodriguez, 22, was killed when she lost control of her car, which slammed into a telephone pole and tumbled down an embankment off East Main Street near Beach Road, according to police.
"I've been working here about 25 years," says Lt. Keith Williams, of the Stony Point Police Department. "This is the first year I remember ever having four different fatalities in four different events throughout the year."
Police say the one thing all of the cases have in common is that the victims weren't wearing seat belts.
Officials are planning a more aggressive education and public-awareness campaign aimed at young motorists in 2015. Their goal is to ensure that there are fewer traffic fatalities next year.
