Missing White Plains boy found dead in S. Carolina

Posted: Updated:

The search for a missing boy with autism from White Plains has come to a tragic end after his body was found in South Carolina.

As News 12 previously reported, 4-year-old Jayden Morrison went missing at around 5:30 p.m. Christmas Eve from his grandmother's home, located in a wooded, rural area. Jayden's grandmother says he wandered out the front door of her home near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, when her back was turned. His mother had been out buying last-minute Christmas presents.

Investigators confirmed that the autistic boy's body was found in a pond 10 houses away from where his grandmother lives. They say his death was the result of an apparent drowning.

For three days, police and more than 100 volunteers combed wet, wooded areas in search of the boy, but found nothing until 10:45 Friday morning. Rescue crews were in the process of lowering the water levels in the pond when they found Jayden's body.

Jayden Morrison was a pre-school student at the Hawthorne Country Day School. Jayden, his mother and twin brother, who live in White Plains, had been in South Carolina visiting relatives. A teacher at the school called him an "adorable little boy."
