Fire leaves 2 military families homeless

Two military families are homeless after a fire broke out in New Windsor Monday afternoon.
The housing facility located at 29 Sluga Ave. caught fire just before 3 p.m. and spread to the attached house next door.
Officials say both families have members that are active at nearby Stewart Air National Guard Base. Fire officials say one is active in the Marines and the other is active in the National Guard.
Officials say the families were able to get out of the homes safely, and no firefighters were injured. However, News 12 is told that a dog perished in the fire.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, but they say it appears to be an accident.
Red Cross is assisting the families affected by the blaze.
