Police checkpoint in Woodbury nets 5 unsafe buses

Posted: Updated:

A police checkpoint in Woodbury has taken five unsafe buses off the road today after a number of bus crashes in recent weeks has drawn attention to bus safety.

The five buses had issues with driver certification or lacked proper insurance to be operating.

Four other buses received summonses for other minor infractions.

Officers say that these inspections are important as a few months ago they say they found a bus cracking in half, likely saving lives.

Attention to bus safety has increased after a number of accidents including one on Interstate 95, which killed 15 people, when the bus tipped over and was sliced in half by a sign pole.
