Westchester lawmakers to discuss Indian Point nuclear plantPosted: Updated:
In the aftermath of the earthquake in Japan damaging the Fukushima nuclear plant, Westchester County lawmakers have planned a series of meetings regarding the Indian Point nuclear plant.
According to officials, Indian Plant can withstand an earthquake with a 6.0 magnitude, and while it's considered one of the most vulnerable nuclear plants in the country, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has repeatedly declared it to be safe. Following the earthquake in Japan, environment and energy and public safety committees have asked for an investigation into issues such as insurance for business and homeowners in the event of a natural disaster in the area.
The meeting is to be held tonight and is closed to the public.
