2010 census shows moderate growth in HV

A high cost of living and the highest property taxes in the nation haven't deterred people from moving to the Hudson Valley as new census information shows growth in the population.

According to the 2010 census, the population in Rockland County has jumped by 8.7 percent over the last 10 years, driven by major growth in the Hasidic communities of New Square and Kaser. The data shows Orange County had the second-highest increase in New York State, with a 9.1-percent hike in population. The Town of Monroe now has the highest total population of any municipality in Orange County, hitting nearly 40,000 residents.
