Retired Ramapo H.S. teacher accused of 'hypnotizing' teen

Clarkstown police say that a retired Ramapo High School teacher has been arrested for allegedly using hypnotism on a female student and providing her with a sexually explicit book on at least one occasion.
Peter Lawton, 76, was taken into custody at his home after authorities say he tried to assist a 16-year-old student with a personal problem by using motivational talks and hypnotism.
East Ramapo Central School District Superintendent Dr. Ira Oustatcher says that Lawton retired from the district on Feb. 28, but that if the charges are true, it would be a serious breach of trust.
Officials say Lawton has been charged with child endangerment and obscenity. He was released on $500 bail and is due back in Ramapo Town Court on March 15.
