Police say a 5-year-old disabled boy was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries after being hit by a school bus this afternoon.

Officials say the accident happened at around noon in the parking lot of the United Talmudical Academy in Kiryas Joel.

State Police Sgt. James Whittel says the bus driver had just picked up three students and began to pull away without noticing that the boy was in front of the bus.

Authorities are still investigating, but believe it was an accident. So far, the driver has not been ticketed.
