Police: Decapitated bear found in Nanuet Dumpster
Police in Nanuet say a bear was found decapitated and declawed in a Dumpster behind Rockland Center. Police say a sanitation worker reportedly discovered the carcass Tuesday morning. They say they are unsure how the bear was killed, but have reported the incident to the state Department of Environmental Conservation. A DEC spokesperson says if the bear was intentionally killed, the person responsible could face a misdemeanor charge violation and a fine of up to $2,000 since the death falls outside hunting season. Police say the property owner at Rockland Center has gotten rid of the bear carcass properly. The DEC has notified its law enforcement division to see if any action will be taken.
