Police close 2 LI beaches amid shark sightings
Police have closed two beaches on Long Island due to shark sightings yesterday and this morning. Cupsogue Beach County Park has been shut down after six sharks were seen there on Monday, and four more were seen today. Officials say they are likely the same sharks, and have posted signs warning swimmers.
Smith Point Beach, the nearest beach to the west, was also closed as a precaution. No sharks have been spotted off the waters there as of yet.
Police have yet to confirm the type of shark and when the beaches will be reopened.
