Sloatsburg, Tuxedo slammed by Irene

Posted: Updated:

Federal emergency workers will be arriving in the Hudson Valley later this week to tour the damage done by Hurricane Irene.

The development comes after Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) today asked President Barack Obama to expedite a major disaster declaration in New York that would release money to help local communities recover from the storm.

Sloatsburg Mayor Carl Wright says massive flooding is just one of several major disasters they're now struggling to contain with the help of the National Guard.

John Petriello lives in the East Village section of Tuxedo, an area still only accessible by foot. Crews were working to repair a bridge that was washed away as the Ramapo River roared in ways some say it never has before.
