Verizon picket lines set up in Rockland County

Posted: Updated:

About 300 Verizon workers who operate out of Rockland County have set up picket lines at local Verizon stores.

Workers marched and chanted in front of a store on Route 59 in Nanuet, and just a few miles away, dozens of workers were also protesting on Route 304 in West Nyack.

More than 45,000 Verizon workers from the Massachusetts to Washington, D.C. went on strike after contract negotiations fell through on Sunday night.

Verizon says it's asking for contract changes because its land-line business has been declining for more than a decade.

The union says Verizon wants worker concessions at a time when it's making billions in profits.

A Verizon spokesman says thousands of managers have been sent to help work in the affected states.
