Family of bears cornered in Nanuet

A furry family's sojourn in the Hudson Valley suburbs is coming to an end, officials say.Numerous sightings this week of a female black bear and her two cubs had local residents abuzz and police on alert. Experts warned that the bears pose a serious safety threat to the public.Wildlife officials worked to trace the black bears all week. This afternoon, they were located in a wooded area in Nanuet.Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) officials say they shot the mother with a tranquilizer dart and carried her out of the woods in a net.The two cubs went up into a tree, where the DEC will attempt to tranquilize them using a long pole with a syringe at the end.The sleeping bears will be transported to the Catskills region and released deep in the woods, officials say.Clarkstown police set traps for family of bearsOfficials concerned about 3 bears wandering around NanuetFamily of bears highly recommends Pomona diner
