Sugar Loaf businesses welcome reopening of major road

Posted: Updated:

Sugar Loaf business owners are celebrating today the reopening of a major road in town that was shut down more than a month ago after sustaining damage during Tropical Storm Irene. The owner of Rosner's Soap Shop says while Kings Highway was closed due to a large sinkhole, fewer customers would come in since a detour would take drivers around the small hamlet. Many business owners in downtown Sugar Loaf are relieved the road reopened before the upcoming fall festival and Applefest. "There is a tremendous amount of traffic that comes off I-86, Route 17 and comes down Kings Highway and goes right into Warwick for Applefest," says Matthew Kannon, of Barnsider Restaurant.Kannon says he hopes visitors will stop in Sugar Loaf on their way to the festivities.

Applefest is being held this Sunday in Warwick. The fall festival will be held in Sugar Loaf during the Columbus Day weekend.
