Funding for the Rockland Narcotics Task Force in jeopardy

Posted: Updated:

The proposed plan to cut county-funding to a Rockland narcotics task force is causing controversy.

Dozens of local officials spoke out last night during a heated legislative meeting in New City.

County Executive Scott Vanderhoeff wants towns and villages to pay the $2.5 million budget that Rockland currently pays for the units. It's all in an effort to close a multimillion-dollar budget deficit.

Rockland leaders say they agreed years ago to pick up the tab in exchange for keeping a higher share of sales-tax revenues.

On Monday, the task force led its third multi-agency drug bust this year. The raid ended with the arrest of 40 alleged dealers.
