Bear Mountain Bridge tolls to go up next year

Posted: Updated:

Starting Jan. 1, tolls for Bear Mountain Bridge will increase, the New York State Bridge Authority announced. Commuters who use the bridge say they're not happy.

The current toll is $1, but E-ZPass users will soon have to pay $1.25, and commuters who pay cash will have to pay $1.50. The increase comes after the Port Authority raised tolls on its Hudson River crossings, and commuters say they think the toll increases are ridiculous.

"You can't keep taking money from everyday people and expect them to keep paying more and more," said Ft. Montgomery resident Geoff Provan. "There is not enough money to go around!"

Bear Mountain Bridge connects Rockland and Westchester counties, and the Bridge Authority says four other upstate bridges will be affected by the toll increase as well.
