An off-duty Rockland County corrections officer is being hailed as a hero after performing life-saving CPR on a Ramapo code enforcement officer who had just suffered a heart attack.

Authorities say 79-year-old veteran Ramapo code enforcement officer Oscar Guise was unconscious and barely breathing after he had a heart attack and crashed his car Tuesday. Rockland corrections officer Kent Taylor, who performed the CPR, is now being credited with saving his life.

Taylor was off-duty and driving along Route 45 when he saw the crash and got out to help. Taylor says he hasn't spoken to Guise since the accident but hopes they can reunite after the holidays.

Guise continues to recover at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern.
