Westtown family disappointed with AZ sweat lodge sentencing

Posted: Updated:

The family of a girl who died in an Arizona sweat lodge in 2009 blasted the sentencing today, saying the man responsible got two years while their sentence is a lifetime of sorrow and hurt.

Ginny and George Brown watched in an Arizona courtroom as self-help guru James Arthur Ray was given three, two-year sentences in the deaths of their daughter, Kirby, and two others. Even though the Browns feel Ray was not given a harsh-enough sentence, Ginny says she is also grateful there is some measure of accountability. Ginny describes her daughter as drunk on life and says the holidays this year will be bittersweet.

The Browns say they don't want any other family to go through this kind of pain. So, they have started an organization to put information out there about the self-help industry. The organization is called SEEK, or Self-help Empowerment through Education and Knowledge.
