Orange County lawmakers vote to keep nursing home open

A nursing home in Goshen that has been under severe financial strain will be kept open at least another year after a vote by the Orange County Legislature last night.
The move by the Legislature overrides a provision in Orange County Executive Ed Diana's 2012 budget that would have stopped funding for the financially ailing facility and cut 425 jobs by the summer.
The new plan for the Valley View nursing home uses $3 million in surplus money, $3 million in projected federal aid and calls for another $3 million in union givebacks in order to keep it open long enough to figure out a permanent solution.
