Newburgh mayoral candidates clash over senior housing complex

The status of a low-income senior housing complex is among the issues that the candidates for Newburgh mayor are clashing over. Democrat Judy Kennedy is running against GOP City Councilwoman Christine Bello to replace current Mayor Nicholas Valentine, who is not seeking re-election. Bello took the Newburgh Housing Authority to court when Burton Towers was under foreclosure, a move Kennedy says put her opponent in a risky position. "Now the deal is done," says Kennedy. "How are we making sure the transition goes effectively?" Kennedy says she helped in the negotiations because the living conditions were appalling. The candidates say they also want to see changes in the city's crime rate and economic growth.Newburgh mayoral candidates vow to stay tough on crimeKennedy wins Democratic primary for Newburgh mayor
