Funeral to be held Sat. for Haitian man fatally shot by police

Posted: Updated:

Funeral services for a Haitian national who was fatally shot by police will be held in Spring Valley tomorrow. Hundreds of Haitians from across the Hudson Valley are expected to pay their final respects to Herve Gilles. Local Haitian leaders say they will "show a sign of force by the sheer number of people who are going to come." The 48-year-old Gilles was fatally shot by a veteran police officer, who says Giles was drunk and belligerent. Many have questioned why police didn't use a non-lethal method of subduing Gilles, such as a Taser.Neither police nor the district attorney's office have spoken publicly about their investigation into the matter. Sources tell News 12 that preliminary findings in the investigation suggest the shooting was justified.Activists demand answers in fatal police-involved shootingDA to probe fatal police-involved shooting in Spring ValleyMan fatally shot by police after alleged attackSpring Valley Haitians want answers after shooting
