The Ramapo Town Board has approved a plan to build hundreds of homes on the Patrick Farm, angering activists who say construction will endanger the community. In a unanimous 7-0 vote, board members granted contractors the rights to build a 500-unit residential complex on the wetlands plot located outside the Village of Pomona. The project is expected to include single-family homes, condos and rental units. Monsey-based developer Yecheil Lebovits says he has been trying to get a go-ahead for years, and is looking forward to taking additional steps. However, local environmentalists say construction efforts will threaten residents' water supply because the town sits atop an aquifer and watershed system.

Officials say they are not sure when developers plan to break ground on the site.
