Activists demand answers in fatal police-involved shooting

Posted: Updated:

Leaders in Spring Valley's Haitian community are demanding answers in the police-involved shooting that killed one of their own earlier this week. More than 20 activists gathered at the village's community center this morning to protest the death of Herve Gilles, 48. He was gunned down Wednesday outside El Buen Gusto Bar. According to police, he was acting violently and hit an officer with a stick before being shot in the head and torso. "We are organizing," resident Jacques Philippe said. "We're on a fact-finding mission." Police have not released the name of the officer who fired at Gilles, but say he acted properly. Rally organizers said they plan on marching this Sunday at 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Spring Valley bus station.DA to probe fatal police-involved shooting in Spring Valley
