Gas main break temporarily shuts down Haverstraw M.S.

A gas main break temporarily shut down Haverstraw Middle School this morning.
An Orange and Rockland Utilities spokesman says a contractor damaged a 4-inch gas main on Partition Street near the school while installing guard rails at around 8:13 a.m.
Several staff members and students who were inside the school for some early morning programs had to be evacuated, and students who arrived by bus were directed to the Community Center.
The gas main was shut off, and everyone was brought back to the school at 9:16 a.m.
School officials say despite the evacuation, teachers only lost one school period of teaching time.
