Ramapo facing $75,000 fine for baseball stadium

Posted: Updated:

The new minor league baseball stadium in Ramapo is set to open next month, but the town is now facing a hefty fine from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

The DEC says it's considering a fine of up to $75,000 for drainage and soil-erosion violations at the 27-acre site, even though the town has since fixed the problems.

Ramapo Supervisor Chris St. Lawrence says nothing overflowed from the stadium's retention basin and that the town also laid down hay on the hillsides, along with retention walls around the site, to ensure no runoff into nearby wetlands.

A spokesperson for the DEC says it is in the process of taking actions and is still in negotiations with the Town of Ramapo.
