Man who lost belongings in motel flood sees surge of donations

A man who came to Rockland from Arizona in search of work has found an outpouring of support after he lost all of his belongings in a motel flood.
Harry Byrd came to the county in search of a job as a drug and alcohol counselor. While staying at a local motel, his room became flooded and the motel's insurance refused to pay for the damages. The motel also began the process of evicting Byrd.
Byrd says strangers have since turned up, donating clothes and a new suit so that he can continue to interview for jobs.
The Rockland County Bar Association also offered to help him with his legal paperwork and fight his eviction from the motel.
"I sort of felt alone at first but I don't anymore," Byrd says about the kindness he has seen.
