Voters fed up with corrupt county, state politiciansPosted: Updated:
Voters say they are fed up with politicians being accused of cheating taxpayers or otherwise breaking the law as former state Sen. Vincent Leibell is expected to soon plead guilty to federal criminal charges.
Westchester residents say they are running low on patience and losing faith in their elected officials.
"I'm losing faith because the level of faith I had was low to begin with," voter Ray Grant said.
Leibell joins a long list of area politicians recently accused of wrongdoing. Former Yonkers City Councilwoman Sandy Annabi is facing federal corruption charges, White Plains Mayor Adam Bradley is on trial for domestic-abuse charges and New York City Congressman Charlie Rangel was just censured by the House of Representatives for tax evasion and misuse of his office.
The Daily News has reported that Leibell will plead guilty to felony bribery and money laundering charges. He has also notified officials that he will not take office as Putnam County executive next month.
