2 hospitalized from noxious fumes in Orangeburg

An Orangeburg business was evacuated yesterday morning because of noxious fumes that sent two people to the hospital.
Authorities say the odor at Nova Optical Lab on Route 303 was so overwhelming that two workers were rushed to the hospital. More than a dozen people were also treated for headaches and nausea.
Officials say a waste-management truck vacuuming out a holding tank at the lab parked too close and caused the foul smell. Rockland Deputy Fire Coordinator Peter Byrne says the odor was not hazardous.
