Sen. Gillibrand beats ex-Rep. DioGuardi in U.S. Senate race

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) has defeated Republican opponent and former Rep. Joe DioGuardi to fill the remainder of the Senate term. Gillibrand was appointed to the seat in 2009 by Gov. David Paterson (D-N.Y.) after Hillary Clinton became secretary of state. DioGuardi, a former congressman from Westchester, tried to attack Gillibrand?s record on health care reform, tax cuts and immigration. Gillibrand will be up for re-election in 2012.
