Pace athlete in court after arrest following teammate's death
The starting quarterback for Pace University appeared in Mount Pleasant Town court this morning on charges that he smashed a storefront window after his friend and teammate was fatally shot early Sunday morning.
Joseph Romanick, 21, is facing a felony criminal mischief charge for the alleged vandalism at the Town Center strip mall early Sunday morning after teammate Danroy Henry, 20, was shot and killed by police.
Police say Henry was parked in a fire lane and that he struck several officers with his car after one of the officers knocked on his window to ask him to move.
Several witnesses, including the passengers in Henry's car, have told a different story. Desmond Heins, who was in the backseat of Henry's car, is alleging police brutality after claims that officers slammed his head on the ground while handcuffing him.
Romanick and his coach, who escorted his player into court today, would not give any comment after this morning's hearing.
