Witness tells different story of fatal Thornwood shooting

Posted: Updated:

An alleged eyewitness to a fatal shooting in Thornwood this weekend says that the Pace University student who was shot may have been speeding before his death, and not parked in a fire lane as police have suggested.

Police say that star Pace football player Danroy Henry was parked in a fire lane outside of Finnegan's Grill around 1:30 a.m. Sunday and that when he was asked to move his car, he accelerated, hitting a Pleasantville police officer. Investigators say Henry clipped another officer, who then fired at Henry through the windshield, killing him and wounding a passenger.

Pace sophomore Samantha DeRosa says she witnessed the whole thing, and that Henry was not parked. DeRosa says she saw Henry's car come around a bend in front of the bar a bit too fast, and that the officer was hit as he tried to flag Henry down.

Henry's parents say they want to know exactly how this could happen to their son. Pleasantville police will not comment until an investigation is complete. A news conference is scheduled for later today.
