Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) was at the Indian Point nuclear facility today outlining his request for increased safety at area power plants after it was discovered that an alleged al-Qaida operative worked at a New Jersey plant.

The audit will give the NRC 30 days to enact several new security measures, including increased training in identifying suspected terrorists, and would require the re-screening of power plant employees.

Schumer initially made a call for increased security in March, when information was released on the New Jersey employee. That suspect was a laborer at several nuclear power plants and is in Yemen now.
