A man was hit and killed by a freight train in Stony Point at around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in what police are currently calling a tragic accident.

Gregg Hession, 37, suffered from a hearing impairment and wore a hearing aid, but police report that none was found at the scene.

Stony Point police say Hession was walking southbound on the tracks when a CSX train headed for North Bergen, N.J. struck him.

Investigators say the train's engineer sounded the horn and flashed the lights, but that the he did not respond to either.

Police have said that the accident does not appear to be a suicide and that the incident should be a warning to anyone who walks near railroad tracks.
