The 32 horses at Equine Rescue depend on donations to keep them healthy, but with the bad economy, officials say money isn?t coming in.
The non-profit group says that it has to spend $4,000-$6,000 a year for each horse and with 32 of them, the costs really add up.
Many horses at the shelter were abused by their owners or neglected.
Group officials say two of the horses were found on the farm of a Wallkill couple who had neglected them. The organization says courts ordered the couple to pay $22,000 for the horses? care, but none of the money has shown up.
