Absentee, affidavit ballots counted for 17th District GOP primary

Posted: Updated:

Absentee and affidavit ballots are being counted in Rockland County for the 17th Congressional District primary race that is still too close to call.

Republican candidates York Kleinhandler and Anthony Mele are vying for a chance to challenge incumbent Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY). Before election workers began counting the ballots, Mele was ahead of Kleinhandler by just a handful of votes.

The 17th District also includes parts of Westchester and the Bronx. Officials will begin counting those absentee and affidavit ballots tomorrow.
