Paladino rides wave of tea party support to GOP gov. win
A Buffalo businessman with zero political experience won the New York GOP nomination for governor Tuesday after a stunning campaign in which he rode a wave of voter dissatisfaction and tea party support to victory.
Carl Paladino trailed his opponent Rick Lazio, who secured the GOP nomination at this summer's Republican convention, by 40 points over the summer.
Paladino bested Lazio in a landslide victory, taking 62 percent of the vote compared to Lazio's 38 percent.
Paladino has painted himself as a political outsider, saying he plans on taking a baseball bat to Albany and challenging Democratic opponent Andrew Cuomo to a series of debates in his victory speech last night.
