Cops: HV ambulance driver crashed while high

Posted: Updated:

A Bronx man who is a driver with the Monroe Volunteer Ambulance Corps has been arrested after allegedly driving an ambulance into a ditch while on drugs last night.

Paul Casson, 30, was found just after 1 a.m. on the westbound side of Route 17M near Stage Road. Cops say Casson was disoriented when they found him and that he needed some assistance standing.

Chief Dom Guidice, of the Monroe Village Police Department, says that Casson admitted to taking Ambien, a sleeping aid, although he is not sure that is what Casson had actually taken.

Casson was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Police say it will be a few weeks before the results of a toxicology report are released.

He's due in court on Sept. 22.
