Orange Co. Choppers helps hurt solider run marathon
Sgt. Eddie Ryan, a Marine from the Hudson Valley, hasn't been able to walk since he was injured in Iraq five years ago, but he will soon run a marathon with the help of the Orange County Choppers.
The crew from TLC's "American Chopper" is customizing Ryan's specially designed hand cycle. Ryan and fellow Staff Sgt. Bryan Purcell will use the bike to run in the Marine Corp. marathon in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 31.
Ryan was shot in the head during a friendly fire incident, and when Purcell saw his story in a documentary, he flew in from Chicago and offered to push him in the marathon.
The team at Orange County Choppers says the bike will be ready in two to three weeks.
