Opening arguments given in trial of 'Newburgh Four'

Posted: Updated:

Both sides gave their opening arguments yesterday morning in the terror trial of four Newburgh men suspected of plotting to blow up Bronx synagogues and shoot down military planes from Stewart Air Base.

Attorneys in the case spent a week choosing the jury, which now consists of seven women and five men.

The credibility of an FBI informant is expected to play a major role in the case, as the informant has been accused by a defense attorney and family members of entrapping the suspects.

The suspects, James Cromitie, David Williams, Onta Williams and Laguerre Payen were arrested in 2009 after they were allegedly caught on videotape with fake explosives.
