Boy struck, dragged by car in Newburgh

A 5-year-old boy was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center last week after being run over by a car in the Price Chopper parking lot in Newburgh.
Police say Elijah Bello and his mother had just finished crossing the parking lot when he ran back into traffic and was struck by a Lincoln town car. According to police, witnesses say the boy was dragged several feet before the driver, 84-year-old Marian Boyea, could stop.
Passersby rushed to help and lifted the car off the boy, who was pinned beneath.
According to police, Bello suffered injuries to his head and legs, but remained conscious and is expected to recover.
Police say no charges will be filed against the driver.
