Nursing home workers, lawmakers meet over possible privatization
Valley View Nursing Home employees met with Orange County legislators today to air their concerns regarding the possible privatization of the facility.
One by one, protesters came to the podium to talk about the potential effects of the privatization on themselves and the elderly patients.
The 350-bed facility has been viewed as a financial burden by the county, costing taxpayers $18 million each year. Last month, lawmakers voted to commission a study exploring the possibility of privatizing the nursing home.
"I'm afraid we're not going to get care when they do privatize," says nursing home resident Agnes Travis.
If Valley View is ultimately sold, 500 people could be laid off.
